Wildfire Update - August 2, 2017
The city of Williams Lake and surrounding areas continue to be under evacuation alert. Here in the city the skies are currently clear and the air quality has tremendously been improved.
Yesterday, Canada’s Prime Ministry, Justin Trudeau, was here in Williams Lake to provide support and to view the wildfire crisis. He was also joined by Minister of National Defence, Harjit Sajjan, the Minister of Sports and Persons with Disabilities and Chair of the Ad Hoc Cabinet Committee on Federal Recovery Efforts for 2017 BC Wildfires, Carla Qualtrough, the Minister of Justice, Jody Wilson-Raybould, and the Premier of British Columbia, John Horgan. The fires around the city are still active and not yet under containment; areas close to the city limits are still under evacuation orders.
Yesterday, our local Interior Health, Canada Mental Health and Pastors Fellowship met to discuss ways to help the community. We discussed the possibility of networking together with other local agencies to assess community needs and to dialogue together regarding recovery options. Tomorrow morning Canadian Mental Health will provide a debriefing training for pastors.
Regarding Church, we had a church service at the Williams Lake Church on Sabbath; approximately 20 people showed up. Since Sabbath, several other church members have re-entered the city; others are Camp Meeting or other places. No church member property losses have been reported.
Thank you for continually keeping our area in your prayers.
