Presidential Blessing: July 15, 2017
Greetings from Abbotsford - home, sweet home! Today, Ern Brake and I, together with Wayne Culmore and Joey Aguilar, will be participating in the Organization Ceremony of the Abundant Life Company into a Church. This is a long-waited occasion for this beloved group of believers. We congratulate and celebrate with them for their passion in sharing Jesus in their community as they become a full fletched church for service. Please keep them in your prayers!

Why do we need an organized church? This question was asked by our pioneers during the first years they were preaching the Advent Message after the Great Disappointment in 1844. They had come out of organized institutions that had “persecuted” and/or ridiculed them because of their new-found beliefs. Our pioneers felt abandoned by them. However, as the movement grew it became increasingly difficult to oversee the progress and delineate plans for the church. Then, God inspired Her servant with messages for the believers to get organized. The Great Disappointment became the Great Accomplishment. By saying this, we should never undermine the individual work that every believer ought to do for their Master, but also realize that mainly because of the world “Mission of the Church” that body of believers should be organized.

Inspired by God, EGW wrote about His purpose for His Church: “The church is God’s appointed agency for the salvation of men [humanity]. It was organized for service, and its mission is to carry the gospel to the world.” (AA 9) God desires to make use of the spiritual gifts and material blessings that He has entrusted to His children to assist in the advancement of His work. This can only happen by their loving and grateful hearts’ responses.

Like Luther, we also believe in the Priesthood of all Believers to facilitate this achievement, by God’s grace. But, is the church perfect? The Biblical message it carries is, yet, the human agents used by God are not. This human fallibility has given opportunity to criticism. It is not new that church members and leaders face accusations or mockery from those who want to highlight their human faults to discredit the church. Again, EGW stated: “The church, enfeebled and defective though it be, is the only object on earth on which Christ bestows His supreme regard. He is constantly watching it with solicitude, and is strengthening it by His Holy Spirit. Will we, as members of His church, allow Him to impress our minds and to work through us to His glory?” (Manuscript 155, 1902) The church will only fulfill its mission, through its members, when they submit themselves completely to God and His plan.

As we celebrate this joyful occasion with the Abundant Life Church family, let’s never lose sight of God’s providence and purpose for the organization of His work on this earth. We should praise Him for being partakers with Him in His mission! Christ is the head of His church! (Col. 1:18)

Please pray for those affected by the forest fires in our Province and for this dangerous situation to come under control. Also, pray for our Camp Meeting starting in 13 days!

Happy Sabbath
In His Service,
