Presidential Blessing: Dec 17

Greetings from Brasilia, Brazil’s capital city! I am visiting one of my brothers and his wife this weekend (recently married) in this beautiful city that brings me lots of memory.
Brasilia was inaugurated in April 21, 1960, after nearly four years of intense construction aiming for one purpose: to be the new capital city of the Brazilian nation, which was moved here from Rio de Janeiro. Brasilia was designed and planned in detail by the Brazilian world famous architect, Oscar Niemeyer, and it is an Unesco’s Heritage Site because of its impressive architecture. It is a modern city and its buildings are in a symmetric shape of an airplane. In the cockpit of the airplane shape city, sits the Three Powers Square. In one side, the Planalto Palace, the nation’s Presidential office, on the other side, the Brazilian Supreme Court Palace, and in the center, the Brazilian National Congress building. There, the three powers of democracy meet: Executive, Judiciary, and Legislative.
A thought came to my mind while I was visiting that site with my brother yesterday afternoon, a place that I have visited many times with my father. These three human powers try to co-exist together while promising prosperity, stability, and justice to the people, through a duly elected government. However, history has shown that human governments, everywhere, have failed many times to achieve this. Greediness, deceit, personal interests, and other lower feelings have caused human governments to create unrest, strives, frustration, and sometimes wars because of their broken promises. Fortunately, there is another Trio, that embraces these three powers as the center of their government. Each member of this Trio has proven to be reliable and willing to offer their best to promote only one, but the most important task ever: the salvation of the human race. The three unfallen members of this Trio are: God, the Father (John 3:16-17); Jesus Christ, the Son (I John 1:9 - 2:1-2), and the Holy Spirit (Rom 8:26). Motivated only for that purpose, this Trio exists to reveal the mystery of incarnation and redemption, which freely bestows eternal life to those who believe in Christ and accept His eternal sacrifice for their sins and salvation. Inspired by God, Isaiah wrote: “For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; it is he who will save us.”  Isa. 33:22 (NIV)
It is very comforting to know that we serve God, Who is always there for us: He provides for all of our needs, He loves us, He is still the ruler of the whole universe, and He uses all His power to save us! He faithfully and lovingly exercises the Judicial, legislative, and Executive powers in order to redeem us. What else can we say? His authority has been challenged for centuries but He still stands alone - Undefeated! Napoleon confirmed this in his words: “Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne and I have founded empires. But on what did we rest the creations of our genius? Upon force. Jesus Christ founded his empire upon love; and at this hour millions of men would die for him.”
As this year will soon be a part of history, I propose to you today to consider inviting the Lord to continue to be your Judge, your Lawgiver, and your King in 2017, as you serve Him. I have made that decision in my heart, and this has brought me much joy and peace! Will you make yours today? I pray that you do.
Note: Only fourteen more days and we will conclude the 120 Days of Prayer and Working Together to Reach 150 Souls for Christ in BC – Sept 3 – Dec 31. Is your local congregation engaged in reaching people for Jesus?
Happy Sabbath!
In His Service,
Wesley Torres, D.Min.
