Presidential Blessing: October 8

Greetings from home, sweet home! Today I will be worshipping the Lord with my family together with our Abbotsford Church Family. I am really looking forward to this opportunity to sit with my “families,” enjoy the service, and be spiritually fed as an ordinary member. God is good!

During this weekend we celebrate Thanksgiving in our great Canadian nation. I woke up this morning with the desire to write about gratitude. What should we be grateful for? Well, to mention just a few – for life, family, food, shelter, the knowledge of God’s Word, to belong to His family, freedom of worship, and above all, the free salvation in Christ. Conversely, it does not take much for one to notice the challenging situation the world is facing today… Thus, the signs of Jesus’ second coming are more evident than never (Matt 24:1-14). However, we are reminded to look up (Luke 21:28) as we see these things taking place. We live in a world that is changing dramatically in its natural, political, financial, moral, and spiritual aspects. BUT, God has been good to us. Just the fact that we can still worship Him in peace throughout our nation (as many people do not have this privilege in different parts of the globe) is a clear indication of how blessed we are and that we should pray for those who do not enjoy this freedom. Our prayers ought to express our gratitude and intercession at the same time!

Nonetheless, God’s Church has always faced challenges, but God has taken care of it, which is the apple of His eye (Zac. 2:8). In light of this, I thank God for the existence of His Church and His calling extended to all of us to be part of His Church’s family and mission. This is a time for reflection… God’s Church has grown tremendously all over the world and in this good mixture of rich cultural diversity, the Church is sometimes posed with some unity challenges. However, as we appreciate belonging to God’s Family, His Church, we should also pray for our worldwide Church. History has shown that God has led His Church in the past and that He is control to do the same today and in the future. “In reviewing our past history, having traveled over every step of advance to our present standing, I can say, Praise God! As I see what the Lord has wrought, I am filled with astonishment, and with confidence in Christ as leader. We have nothing to fear for the future, except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us, and His teaching in our past history.” EGW, LS, 196. I sincerely appreciate these inspired words. I have witnessed them to be a true reality!

During this Thanksgiving Season, I invite all of us to reflect, rejoice, and remember that we are a Family – a Worldwide Church Family! Let our “thanksgiving prayers” ascent to heaven in full confidence in the leadership of the Lord over His Church.

Note: The 120 Days of Prayer and Working Together are motivating the BC Conference members to live by the Word as we all Witness for Christ to Reach 150 Souls for God’s Kingdom by December 31.

Happy Sabbath… and Happy Thanksgiving!

In His Service,
Wesley Torres, D.Min.
