Established by Warren Buffett and Bill & Melinda Gates, "The Giving Pledge"consists of "a commitment by the world's wealthiest individuals and families to dedicate the majority of their wealth to philanthropy."

While each pledger has an unique motivation to donate billions of dollars after they die, the primary motivation is the desire to alleviate pain and suffering in the world.

"[Wisdom] opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy."Proverbs 31:20 NIV

Likewise, a strong motivation fills the Christian's heart, a desire to lead others to Jesus and enter a relationship with Him thereby experiencing the peace of God and joy of life abundant now and through eternity. To this end, we give of our time, talents and treasures.

We were made in God's image and are accountable to our Creator.

"Rich and poor have this in common: The LORD is the Maker of them all." Proverbs 22:2 NIV

The poor in this world become truly rich when they accept Christ as Savior and follow Him as Lord. Jesus says, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:3 NIV

Conversely, the wealthy in this world are incredibly poor if Christ is rejected and one's own desires are followed instead.

"Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:20-21 NIV

Make planned giving a part of your Christian walk. It may be that, only in eternity, we can see the results of our intentional and faithful philanthropy to Christ's kingdom here and now.
