The “Returned” Blessings!

Greetings from Abbotsford - home sweet home! I am looking forward to seating and worshipping God as an ordinary member, together with my family, at our home church this Sabbath. God is good! Tomorrow, I will be officiating the wedding of a young woman whom the Torres have known since she was a teenager and our families have become good friends. The bridegroom is also a fine person. What a privilege, as a pastor, to see our young people grow, complete their education, be ready to serve the Lord, and go through this very important decision in their lives - the most important one, after accepting Jesus as their Savior. Please keep that young couple in your prayers.

A few weeks ago, I was taken by surprise while attending a meeting somewhere in our Conference. Someone approached me and said: “I felt urged to tell you that your kind words spoken to me months ago made me feel important and valued as I had never felt like that in many years and was also facing a difficult time in my life. You noticed me and thank me for what I had done for God’s Church…”. Wow… I did not expect that at all! I smiled but could not even remember the details of that conversation.

First and foremost, to God be the glory! I realized that I was just a channel being used by God when I spoke with that person. I was honest in my remarks, but I did not have a clue that it would cause such an impact on that individual’s life… It just made me to ponder about the importance of our words as well as how crucial it is to value people and encourage them. We are a family … and family stick together! However, there is another aspect in that second conversation that also touched my heart in a very special way. When that person mentioned that to me, at that moment, I was the one whom God knew that somehow, I needed to hear those words. Yes, I had a smile in my face but my heart was heavy as I was dealing with some challenging situations. God used someone whom I did not even remember I had spoken with kind words of recognition to “boost” my heart and encourage me to “face the giants.”

That how God works! The blessing that we bestow to others return to us abundantly! Inspired by God, Ellen White wrote: “And the effort to bless others will react in blessings upon ourselves.” (SC, 79) How much more blessed all of us would be if our words, attitudes, and actions were to uplift, recognize, encourage, support, sustain, and value people in their journey heaven bound, with us! (Prov. 25:11; Eph. 4:32; Fil. 4:4-8; Col. 3:13-17)

Please, let’s continue to pray for:

Happy Sabbath!
